The Villa Niñas y Niños project, part of the "Haz el bien por Aca" initiative by the Reinserta foundation, involves the reconstruction of a shelter for children in Acapulco that suffered severe damage after Hurricane Otis in October 2023.
The architectural design is based on the organization of the program and users of the shelter in a gradient of privacy relative to the street. Circulation areas and services become the compositional axes of the project, organizing the program around a series of open and semi-open spaces.
The gable roofs allow natural light to enter and extend over the façades to create covered walkways.
In this way, the project is conceived as a small city for children, where architecture is articulated with streets, plazas, and gardens that invite play and promote the holistic development of the children who live there in a safe environment.
